Where would you be if you followed your plans?
Maybe where you *want* to be, but surely, not where you should be. You don't really ever escape your destiny. If I was where I had planned to be let's see...
This time last year I was planning to expand the company I was with and hoping to really settle down in Chicago and be with them for the next decade or so.
This time two years ago I was living in New York City, and my dream of opening a store was becoming a reality and did in early May. Of course not my own, but I ran it. Entirely, and it was such a big learning experience.
This time three years ago I was just coming back from a 6 month saunter across Europe and South America. I actually came back on Mother's Day and surprised my family after not seeing them for over 7 long, emotionally grueling months for us.
This time four years ago I made the big boy move to New York City (first time!) and was loving the shit out of life. I had recently been promoted at my first job there and the spring weather was picking up.

I learned a lot, and each time I wanted more, or eventually, something else. Last year was the first time in my life I signed an agreement stating I would be someplace (I didn't follow through on the 17 month commitment..) but does it matter?
There are some of us out there, the dreamers. Ask me what I want for dinner I couldn't tell you, but I can say no to your 10-15 suggestions. I simply don't know what I want, but I'm willing to try and find out. I'm willing to go and do, see, attempt most anything and see if it sticks.
Sure I'm a passenger in life, aren't we all? I have over 70 years left and if it takes me awhile to find my true "life calling" I don't mind, really. At least I will have learned what *isn't* for me, in a short time too.
I've recently signed a one year lease here in Jakarta, and signed a one year contract for a company as well. I love my life here, and everyday excites me. Just like New York did in 2013, where I stayed for a whopping 9 months. Extenuating circumstances, of course. But.. I think I'm growing up. I'm here for a year, and I could easily see myself extending that.
Plans constantly change, but always ask yourself "am I where I want to be?" If not, ask what you can do to make sure you get back on track.
