Before I even get started, let me tell you that sleeping overnight on a bus is the cheapest accommodation you'll find.
Needing to travel 8+ hours is the perfect time to just close your eyes and make a night of it. You have to go anyways, and in this case to Banawe we went.
Banawe is a Unesco Heritage Site very well known for its rice terraces, but thanks to the insider info I received (seriously.. everyone in this country will break their back to help you) I realized the holy grail was Batad.

and you can travel to Batad in style! A lot of local rides offer various options, but we stuck to a sanctioned ride, and even rode the top of the bus for the near two hour journey. Our asses hurt, but our eyes were given quite the treat. Honestly, do not miss out on this.
Batad itself is such a small, old town. All it has are several inns, a school, and not much else besides the terraces. It's the perfect getaway, you have to trek 30 minutes from where the bus lets you through what one might not even consider a "path." It's awesome.
