Long time, no trip! Well, not exactly. I didn't write much about my time in Maryland but anyways. I did something I haven't done since I was a kid; gone on vacation with my mom!
Our first voyage was to San Diego, which will be today's post. Originally our vacation was a 10 day plan which my mom was content to take all in San Diego, but I convinced her we should go to San Francisco as well and most likely L.A. The last minute nature of these choices seemed to excite her which is all I could ask for!
After a quick flight to San Diego (really. 5 hours? that's nothing, I've grown so accustomed to long flights that this went by in a flash) we grabbed our rental car and checked into our hotel right off of the I-5. Given our flight was at 9 am, we were up quite early and grabbed a quick nap, and a quick burrito at El Indio.

The Indio Burrito was delicious. Not often do I eat Mexican food anymore, let alone something considered "fast food" but the zucchini in the burrito was a nice change of pace. I was so full I didn't eat for the rest of the day. After lunch we decided to go for a drive and found ourselves on the island of Coronado.
Coronado is a beautiful "town", which isn't considered to be a part of San Diego. You have your choice of the entire beachfront, upon which lies the infamous Coronado Hotel. When we walked through and around, at least 4 wedding parties were going on! It's a classic "on-the-sea" hotel, of which not many still exist on the coast.
Following the short visit to a place I could never afford to spend even an hour, we decided to wander around the island. From the ocean all the way to the bay, where you have a nice view of downtown. Its a bit of a walk, but there was quite the variety of stores and restaurants to choose from. Coronado was a lovely experience and a good way to close the first night.

The following day we set out for downtown and one of our destinations was the U.S.S. Midway Museum. Mom's dad was a Navy man in his day, so it meant a lot to her to see it. The tour itself is huge, and takes around FOUR HOURS to finish, but at your leisure, of course. We spent a good three hours there, and even skipped an entire section. It's a must see, if you ask me, and for 20 dollars its worth it. We ate our lunch at a burger place called Burger Lounge, where they served a well balanced meal including organic options, and grass fed cow meat! I enjoyed every second of it, including the vanilla shake!
The final day was reserved for the most obvious San Diego destination of them all; The San Diego Zoo. What else can I say? If you ever find yourself in San Diego, you must go see it. You simply must. It's wonderful, it has so much to offer! I hope pandas are your thing, because they are the cutest. I won't write too much, as I don't really know what to say about a zoo, but following we had another wonderful meal at San Diego's first (?) fast food vegan restaurant; Evolution. I enjoyed it, but the sweet potato fries were the tops. Man, I really do love food!
Having only booked a hotel for a few days (my suggestion) I was able to convince my mom to take a flight first thing in the morning to San Francisco, and so on Tuesday morning we were off! I leave you now with pictures of food. :D
