After weeks of discussion, Hazel and I finally set off for our trip upstate this weekend. A nice, 4 hour drive (the theme of the trip is we are derps and were behind schedule for everything) went nicely. And around 11 am, we arrived at our cute campground. We had just a tent, and an air mattress; all we need really.
After quickly (I'm lying. we put it together wrong at first, of course) setting up our tent, we headed off for Black Mountain about an hour away off of Lake George. This hike specifically appealed to us for it's views, as well as it's moderate difficulty.
The views were pretty amazing, it's hard to quite capture in photos. After our ascent, we decided to relax and she wanted a snack and some water at the top. It was a wonderful thing to take in, you can see the majority of Lake George from the top. On the descent, you can cross paths with quite a few ponds, and they're just as beautiful too.
The hike itself wasn't so bad. It took us about 80 minutes to get to the top, and about 3:30 in total for the whole 6.7 (I believe) mile loop. It was all wonderful, though, with some difficult parts and narrow path. We both thoroughly enjoyed our adventure and set out for dinner. It took us to a golf course(!) with delectable locally grown treats. We really had ourselves a feast, and headed back for camp.
Of course, we underpacked. We didn't bring a blanket, I had no pants either and well...OF COUUUUURSE the temperature lied. And a thunderstorm came in overnight, and we were hit with weather near 50 degrees or so. I was already exhausted having slept poorly the night before, drove a good 4-5 hours that morning, and was now freezing on top of this. At around 4 am we bailed and spent the rest of the night in the car which was significantly better.
The most unfortunate part of all this was our plans were absolutely ruined. It was cold. It was storming and raining. Our plans for the day? Canoeing, which we were going to do in honor of Hazel's grandfather. Unfortunately, it immediately became not an option. And we headed for dinner on a nother resort.
What's the deal with these resorts? They're beautiful, and as long as you pretend you belong there they seem to have no problem with you using their amenities. Which is fine by me!! The breakfast was absolutely incredibly.

Afterwards we decided to venture around the resort and took in the most wonderful view of the lake. If only the temperature had been a bit warmer, and less cloudy, it would've been perfect.
To cap off our day we walked around the local town, and went antique shopping before taking the long 5 hour voyage (Is everyone heading to Brooklyn at 7pm on a Sunday night?) home.
